Track and Field Day!

The weather wasn't perfect, but we got in all but 5 of our track and field day events before the weather started to look icky.  The kids had a blast and it was a wonderful way to spend the day together.
P.S.  Tyler challenged me numerous times yesterday to a race.  He informed me that he is WAY faster than me.  We raced today, I won, and then did a cartwheel.  :)

I just want to say thank you one more time for sharing your child with me (most of you for two years).  As a mom, I know how stressful it can be sending your child to someone else for a whole day.  When we first met, we were strangers, and we are leaving a family.  I cherish your children and hope that you keep in touch throughout the years.  I feel very honored to have had the chance to get to know each and every one of the students in my class this year.  It is bittersweet sending them off to second grade.  I know they will do great, but I am going to miss them terribly.

Your child should be receiving a small package in the mail from me shortly.  I wanted to hand them their DVD's today as they left, but due to crashing hard drives and non-working operating systems on my home computer, the DVD was not able to be finished on time.  I will add on our track and field day pictures and stick them in the mail as soon as we have a working computer at home.   I hope you all enjoy your summer and I look forward to seeing your child in the halls next year!

Third Street Station

The kids had a blast at Third Street Station!  Thank you to Mrs. Scroggins and Ms. Blumer for helping us walk the kids to and from the ice cream shop!

Thank You!

Thank  you to everyone who donated to make Sumner Park possible yesterday!  We had plenty of juice boxes and the kids really seemed to enjoy themselves at our picnic and our play day.  An extra big thank you to Mr. Bird who came and played with the kids and helped in any way we asked!

Reminder:  Tomorrow is Track and Field Day.  You may want to send your child to school with sandals to change into after Track and Field Day is over, as their shoes may get wet if we get a lot of rain tonight.

Our Last Week as First Graders!

Where does the time go?  It seems like just yesterday these little ones came into my class as KINDERGARTENERS!  Now, on Friday, I will send them off as second graders.  As exciting as that is for the kids, it leaves me feeling a little blue today.  Over the past two years, I have seen these kids accomplish amazing things, and while all of my students mean the world to me, I am a little closer to this group of kids, as I have had the pleasure of spending an extra year with them.  Every single one of them is ready for second grade and without a doubt will accomplish great things as they grow even more.  I just want to say THANK YOU to the parents of all my students for allowing me to be their teacher.  I have taken care of them and loved them like they were my own.  I wiped tears, gave hugs, high fives and even fist pumps at times. I have helped calm upset tummies and helped these kids remember what good friends are.  I know in the fall a new set of first graders will walk through the doors of my classroom and we will make memories together too, but there will be 20 very special faces that I will be missing on that day.
Here is a quick reminder of our festivities this week:
Wednesday:  Sumner Park Field Trip (NO LUNCH NEEDED, Walking shoes please!)*
Thursday:  Walking field trip to 3rd Street Station*
Friday:  Track and Field Day/Last Day of School
**These activities are weather permitting and will not be rescheduled if weather does not cooperate**
Reminder: Report Cards will be mailed this year!

Fun Friday!

We are relaxing in our pajama's today!  It is our final PJ day of first grade and the kids are so excited.  We are working on our First Grade Memory Books this morning.  We did take a little break from that to play sight word baseball in the cafeteria!

I can't believe that there are only 4 more days of school left after today.  I am going to miss these silly monkeys like crazy next year!

Don't forget!  We are going to Sumner Park on Wednesday.  Our class is responsible for bringing juice boxes.

Congratulations Mrs. Durand!

Congratulations to Mrs. Durand for being nominated and winning 97zok's Teacher of the Week award.  Mrs. Durand is our schools Music Teacher and she is excellent at what she does!  I can't think of a more deserving teacher!  Mrs. Durand was surprised by Ali and 97zok yesterday afternoon.  Ali and her family nominated Tammy for this honor.  Ali was very excited to give Mrs. Durand her flowers.
Mrs. Durand does a lot for our school and for her students.  The concerts our students at PES do are phenomenal!  The students also love getting to perform around the community, something they wouldn't be able to do without Mrs. Durand's hard work getting them set up and ready to go!  Way to Go Mrs. Durand!  Our class is so proud of you!
Mrs. Durand was also able to have her sons here for the surprise!

Some quotes from students in my class this morning:

Mrs. Durand is the best because she teaches us GREAT songs! - Lucas

Mrs. Durand won because she sings really nice! - Josh G.

She is the nicest music teacher I have EVER even met! - Addsion

She teaches us how to sing for our concert very well! - Leanne

Duck Fun!

The ducks are doing great!  Natalie and Whitney have enjoyed having them home at night.  Here are a few videos of the ducks.  One is of Quackers looking for Bob and the other is of the two ducks swimming, or as Natalie calls it, taking a bath.

Enjoy!
