The kids are very excited! Today we received a package from Globe Trot Scott! He travels around the world and sends packages to our classroom to help us learn how other countries celebrate Christmas. He will be visiting us many times before we leave for Christmas vacation!
Today Globe Trot Scott sent us a package from GERMANY!
Froehliche Weihnachten!
That is how you say Merry Christmas in Germany!
Part of our job today was to read all about Germany and answer a few questions. We found Germany on the map and looked up what their flag looks like also. I decided that one day I would like to go to Chriskindmart! It is a big shopping experience in Germany around Christmas time where people go to get delicious food and do their holiday shopping!
Here is a picture of our Germany fact sheet!
It is tradition in Germany to decorate gingerbread houses. Our souvenir from Germany was gingerbread men that we could decorate ourselves. The students had a great time learning about German traditions! I can't wait to see where our next package comes from and when it will arrive!
We also read the story Cobweb Christmas: The Tradition of Tinsel. If you have never read the story I highly recommend it! It is about how the tradition of putting tinsel on trees came about. It talks about a little old lady named Tante in Germany who wished for a Christmas miracle every year.
