Red Ribbon Week

We are celebrating Red Ribbon Week this week at school.  I am just going over the basics with the kids.  I told them today that we are celebrating making healthy choices for our body and that drugs are not healthy choices unless our Dr. gives them to us.  Today all of the students wore jeans for I'm a Jean-ius Day!

In math this week we are going to continue to work on addition.  Our standard is that students should be able to add with sums to 20.  They should be able to add fluently within ten.  What that means is that they should be able to do 40 addition problems in 3 minutes and be 90% accurate.  We will continue to take timed tests at school.   Once your child meets our first grade fluency goal, they will start working on meeting the second grade fluency goal.  Being fluent with addition and subtraction will help your child immensley with their schoolwork and with life in general.   Today, we played a game called Fill Me Up where students rolled two dice and added them together.  After adding them together they graphed them on their Fill Me Up chart.

Check back in tomorrow for more Red Ribbon Week fun!
